130 Odia Labourers Trapped In Flood-Hit Kerala Appeal For Help

Bhubaneswar: About 130 Odia labourers, trapped in the flood-hit area of Ernakulam district in Kerala, have desperately sought help for their rescue.

Of the 130 trapped labourers, 60 are from Puri, 30 from Cuttack and 40 from Kandhamal district. All of them were working in a private company near Ernakulam town. As the floodwater entered the company premises due to the devastating rain, they left the company premises and took shelter inside a house at a safer place near the foothills in Odakali area on the outskirts of the town.

The family members of some of these labourers have informed the media that their kin, who have taken shelter inside a small house on the foothill in the Odakali area and remained without food and water, had requested them to inform the district administration and the state government to take necessary steps for their immediate rescue. They had also informed that they cannot contact them anymore as there is no power to recharge their mobile phones.

The trapped labourers had also informed their family that most areas of Ernakulam district are marooned and there is no relief and rescue operation in Odakali till date.
