66% Polling In Odisha In Final-Phase Polls

Bhubaneswar: An average of 66% voter turnout was recorded in Odisha in the fourth and final phase polls that concluded in the evening on Monday.

Informing the media, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar said while an average 66% polling was recorded by 5 pm, the voting rate went up later.

Talking about the average polling in the six Lok Sabha and 41 Assembly segments by 5 pm, he said Mayurbhanj and Jajpur have recorded 66% and 65% percent respectively followed by 65% in Kendrapara, 64% in Jagatsinghpur, 64% in Balasore and 68% in Bhadrak.

Kumar further said that in view of the approaching cyclonic storm Fani, necessary instructions have been given to all District Collectors to ensure the safety of the EVMs, VVPATs and the EVM control units.

The CEO further said that he has recommended the Election Commission of India (ECI) to conduct fresh polling in 12 booths either on May 5 or 6. Polling in these booths was disrupted due to glitches in the EVMs in the third-phase polls.
