Bhubaneswar Sizzles As Heatwave Grips Coastal Odisha

Bhubaneswar: With the north-westerly wind blowing across Odisha, most parts of the coastal area reeled under searing heatwave with intense humidity on Sunday.

Though there was a marginal fluctuation in temperature in the interior region of the state, the entire coastal belt witnessed a steady rise in mercury.

While Bhubaneswar was the hottest at 42.3 degree Celsius, six other places where the temperature crossed 40 degrees are Chandbali (40), Cuttack (40.2), Angul (41.3), Baripada (40.4), Bhawanipatna (40.2) and Balangir (40.6).

Though the temperature hovered around 35 degrees in the seaside towns in Paradip, Puri and Gopalpur, people had a torrid time due to intense humidity.

The Met office has indicted formation of a cyclonic circulation over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Odisha and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, but it is most likely to intensify into a low pressure in the next 72 hours.

Considering the trend, there will be no change in the weather conditions till June 22, it added.
