Casting couch case: Trial adjourned as no witness appears before court

Bhubaneswar: The hearing in casting couch case against Ollywood actor and comedian Tattwa Prakash Satpathy aka Papu Pom Pom could not be held on Monday as none of the witnesses appeared before the special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court here.
“The court had issued summons to the victim, her parents and Child Welfare Committee (CWC) member Nirupama Rath. As none of the witnesses turned up, hearing of the trial had to be adjourned,” a lawyer said.
On July 1, the POCSO court had framed charges against the Ollywood actor under Sections 341, 323 and 354 of the IPC and Sections 8 and 12 of the POCSO Act.
He and his associate Pradipta Swain were arrested on June 30 last year for allegedly exploiting a minor girl on the pretext of giving her a break in Ollywood. A complaint in this regard was lodged at Mahila police station by a Bhubaneswar-based NGO.
The Orissa High Court granted them conditional bail on August 10, 2016.
