City Walls Wear The Colours Of Hockey World Cup

Bhubaneswar: The white-washed walls along some of the major stretches of Odisha capital are all set to don the colours of Hockey World Cup. Olly, the official mascot of the event, on the wall near AG Square here is already making heads turn.

Following the success of the beautification project undertaken during the Asian Athletics Championships last year, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has awarded the work again to 10 agencies this year under Street Art and Murals Project (STAMP).

The civic body has already identified a 40-km road network for the purpose.

The artists and the groups allotted various stretches include Bakul Foundation, Gopal Krushna Rath, Satyabhama Majhi, Virtu Communications, Pinaki Ranjan Mohanty, Rashmi Ranjan Jena, Krutika, Mastermind, Brushing Point and Odisha Modern Art Gallery.

The major stretches are flyovers from Vani Vihar to Jaydev Vihar, Airport to Jaydev Vihar and Governor’s House to Fire Station via Delta Square and Siripur Square to Fire Station Square.

The paintings by the artists, however, will vary but revolve around the hockey and Odisha’s contribution to the game.

Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup will be play at Kalinga Stadium here from November 28 to December 16.
