CM Directs Officials To Modernise Transport System Ahead Of Hockey World Cup

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday directed his government officials to complete modernisation of the public transport system in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri ahead of the Hockey World Cup scheduled to be held from November this year at Kalinga Stadium here.

Chairing a high-level meeting held at the state secretariat, the Chief Minister said,”Presently, as many as 110 buses of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) are plying on different routes in the city. Only 6 percent passengers are availing the benefits of this service. So, there is a need to increase the number of bus passengers to at least 16 percent in order to minimise road accidents, congestion and fuel consumption.”
During the meeting, it was also highlighted that the government has plans to add 200 more buses to its existing fleet of BMC buses, taking the total number to 310.
Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi and senior officials of BMC were present in the meeting.
