Kunduli Probe: Congress Slams Govt, To Agitate In Odisha Capital Today

Bhubaneswar: Taking a dig at the Odisha government for deliberately delaying the investigation into the Kunduli case, the Congress has decided to take to the street on Monday.

At a press meet in the State Capital on Sunday, Koraput Congress MLA and chairman of party’s Scheduled Caste Morcha, Krushna Chandra Sagaria said the state government on February 7 had announced a court-monitored investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the Kunduli case. It had said that it would request the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court to appoint a judge to monitor the investigation.

“In the meantime, 11 days have passed and the state government has neither constituted the SIT nor announced the name of the officials to be the part of SIT. From this, it is now certain that the state government is deliberately trying to hold-up the investigation,” he said.

He informed that the party will stage a demonstration in the Capital city on Monday and later in Cuttack and Rourkela in subsequent phases.

Terming the allegations of the Congress leader as baseless, BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb said the Congress is trying to count the chickens before they are hatched.

The government has apprised the Orissa High Court of its decision for a court-monitored SIT Probe and submitted all legal documents before the court. “As far as I know, the court is most likely take a decision to this effect either on February 21 or 22,” he added.

Notably, the minor girl was allegedly gang raped in a forest near Kunduli under Pottangi Police Station limits in Koraput district on October 10 last year and subsequently committed suicide by hanging herself inside the house at her native village Musaguda on January 22.
