CWG 2018: Medal Rush Continues On Day 4

Gold Coast: It rained medals for India, and mostly gold, at the day four of the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast on Sunday.

The highlight of the day, however, remained 16-year-old shooter Manu Bhaker who shot gold. Manu’s fellow shooter Heena Sidhu clinched a silver. Ravi Kumar settled for a bronze medal in the 10m air rifle event.

Creating history, the table tennis team of Manika Batra, Madhurika Patkar and Mouma Das upset 3-1 defending champions Singapore to win gold.

Weightlifters continued their dream run as Punam Yadav pulled off a personal best of 222kg (110kg+122kg) to win gold in the 69kg category. Vikas Thakur added bronze to the tally.

On the badminton court, India triumphed 3-1 triumph over Singapore in the mixed team event, and will meet Malaysia in the final.

In hockey, the women’s team stunned Olympic champions England as they beat them 2-1 in its third match, keeping alive the semi-final hopes. The men’s team, on the other hand, registered a hard-fought 4-3 win over Wales.

Boxer Mary Kom too advanced and is in medal contention.

In athletics, shot-putter Tejinder Singh made it to the finals, while Mohammed Anas booked slot in the semi-finals in the 400m. India now have seven gold, two silver and three bronze medals so far.
