Divyang Student’s Death: Ravenshaw Varsity Authorities Step Up Measures

Cuttack: Three days after a divyang (physically challenged) fell to his death at Ravenshaw University, the university authorities on Saturday announced a slew of measures to prevent recurrence of the same in future.

Talking to the mediapersons, Vice-Chancellor of the university Ishan Patro a special committee would be formed for the divyang students. Besides, CCTV cameras will be installed in all hostels to monitor the activities of the students.

“There will be lifts in all hostels, especially for the divyang students. As this will take some time, these students will be accommodated on the ground floor. Besides, the staircases leading to the roof of the hostels will be closed,” Patro said.

He further said that instructions have been given to all the hostel superintendents to ask the students to sign on the register while leaving the university campus.

Notably, Kushdhar Bag of Balangir district, pursuing his PhD in Political Science, had died after falling off the roof of the New Hostel on the night of September 26.

The case is being investigated by the Malgodown police.
