Flying Taxis To Rule US Skies By 2023, Says Uber

Dubai/Los Angeles: Turning true our childhood fantasies of travelling in a flying car, Dubai’s Roads and Transportation Agency has announced that a drone that can carry people will begin regular operations in Dubai from July.

The passenger selects a destination on the touch screen and there are no other controls inside the craft.

In Los Angeles, ride sharing giant Uber also held its second annual ‘flying taxi’ conference where it teamed up with NASA to create ‘flying taxi’, which would basically be drone-helicopter hybrids that can fly across the town sometimes in the next decade.

Embraer, Pipistrel Aircraft, Karem, Bell and Boeing subsidiary Aurora Flight Sciences are among the partners working on the new project with Uber. It had released images of its own concept aircraft and had a tiny model version on display at the conference.

One of the reasons Uber is working on a ridesharing network of flying cars is to help cut down on road congestion and are hoping commercial trips to be viable by 2023.
