New Delhi: India has taken strong exception to India’s High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria being denied entry to Gurudwara Panja Sahib in Pakistan’s Hasan Abdal, despite having the required permission.
The envoy had travelled to the Gurudwara, 66 km from Islamabad to perform some religious rituals on Friday.
Besides releasing a statement, India’s High Commission has registered a protest in Islamabad as well.
“It has been conveyed to the Pakistan side that preventing the Indian High Commissioner from discharging his consular responsibilities is in violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, and the 1974 Bilateral Protocol on visit to religious shrines,” the Ministry of External Affairs statement said.
On February 11, Bisaria was made to stand on a road in Karachi, where he had gone to attend a literature festival.
The ministry also expressed concern over repeated attempts by entities in Pakistan to extend support to secessionist movements in India and incite Indian pilgrims, the release said, adding that the authorities have been asked to ensure that no such activity is carried out on Pakistan soil.
