Justice KS Jhaveri To Be Appointed As New Chief Justice Of Odisha HC

Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court Collegium on Friday recommended the appointment of Justice K. S. Jhaveri as the new Chief Justice of Odisha High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the name of Odisha High Court Chief Justice Vineet Saran for elevation to the apex court.

Enrolled in the Bar in 1983, Justice Jhaveri was made an additional judge of the Gujarat High Court in 2004. He became a permanent judge in 2005.

Later, Jhaveri was transferred to Rajasthan High Court in August, 2016.

Besides, Justice Saran, Chief Justices of the High Courts of Uttarakhand and Chennai, KM Joseph and Indira Banerjee, respectively have also been recommended for elevation to the top court by the Collegium, which met this afternoon.

However, the Centre has recently stalled the elevation of Justice Joseph to the Supreme Court citing seniority and regional representation.

Justice Vineet Saran was appointed as a judge of the Allahabad High Court on February 16, 2015. He was elevated as the Chief Justice of Odisha High Court on February 26, 2016.

Justice Saran has graduated from Allahabad University in the year 1976 and obtained LL.B Degree in 1979-80. He was enrolled as an advocate with Uttar Pradesh Bar Council on July 28, 1980 and practiced in Allahabad High Court from July 28, 1980 to February 13, 2002.

Saran was elevated as a permanent judge on February 2, 2002 and took oath as judge of Karnataka High Court on February 16, 2015.
