Man-Animal Conflict Continues In Odisha: 3 Killed, 1 Injured

Talcher/Dhenkanal/Sundargarh: A seven-year-old boy died after a wall collapsed, as an elephant tried to enter a house at Barghat village of Sundargarh district. Two others were also killed in different incidents of man-animal conflict in the last 24 hours.

Sources said a wild elephant entered human habitation in Sundargarh district on Friday night and then tried to enter a resident’s house, following which a portion of the wall collapsed on the child. The child was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

In another incident, an elderly man was trampled to death and a woman was critically injured at Gudiakateni village in Dhenkanal on Saturday morning. Dayanidhi Sahu (65) was on his way to the village to take bath when the wild elephant attacked him. Irate residents later blocked NH-55 and demanded compensation for Dayanidhi’s kin.
In a third incident on Saturday, Kedar Nath Prasad, an elderly man, was trampled to death by a tusker when he was standing near his house at Talcher in Angul district. On being informed, the police and forest department officials reached the spot and began a probe. Sources said two wild elephants had strayed into some areas of Talcher on February 28.
