NHRC Team To Probe Kunduli Suicide Case

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has decided to probe into the suicide of a minor girl who was allegedly gang-raped inside a forest near Kunduli in Odisha’s Koraput district on October 10 last year.

The Commission has taken the decision in response to a petition filed by Human Rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy.

The Commission has directed the NHRC DG (Investigation Division) to constitute a special team that will visit Kunduli where the incident had taken place. The team will also visit Musaguda, the native village of the victim and interact with the family members.

The team will submit its report to the Commission within 15 days.

This apart, the Commission has also asked the Additional Director General (ADG), Odisha Human Rights Cell to furnish a report on the circumstances that forced the rape victim to commit suicide.

The Commission has also asked the state government to submit detailed reports on the status of the investigation into the case till date, the statements of the victim, medical reports pertaining to the types of treatment the victim was provided and the counseling of the victim.

Besides, the Commission has also sought detailed reports from other departments of the state government that had investigated into various aspects of the incident.
