A native of Jatni in Khurda district, he was residing at Narnaul in Mahendragarh district of Haryana.

Pawan would be produced in the jurisdictional court in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, CB sources said.

On October 15, the cyber cell received a written information that one person with a particular phone number has created a WhatsApp group and has added several persons without their consent. He allegedly used to post sexually explicit, nude, highly objectionable and obscene messages on that group.

Based on the report, a case was registered under Sections 292 (2) (a) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 67 and 67 A of the Information Technology Act 2000.

During the course of the investigation, it was ascertained that Pawan had deliberately created the WhatsApp group named CC in order to defame one Girdharilal Hallan of IRC village in Bhubaneswar.

He had used Hallan’s name on WhatsApp profile.

A team of Crime Branch officers was then sent to Narnaul and Pawan arrested with the help of Haryana’s Mahendragarh Police from his present residence on Wednesday.

The mobile phone and SIM card utilised in committing this offence was also been seized from his possession.

He was produced before the CJM, Narnaul, who allowed CB two days of transit remand to produce the accused before the jurisdictional court in Bhubaneswar.

Further investigation of the case is on.
