‘Sala Budha’ Writer Kapileswar Mahapatra Passes Away

Sonepur: ‘Sala Budha’ writer Kapileswar Prasad Mahapatra passed away at 91 at his Lehedi residence in Sonepur district at 9.30 pm on April 13.

Eminent film director Sabyasachi Mahapatra’s father, Kapileswar Mahapatra was born on August 7 at Lehedi village here in 1928. He was a writer, researcher and social activist.

When he was a teacher, he used to give homeopathic medicines to poor people free of cost. After his retirement, he founded a trust ‘Chetana’ at his village Lehedi.

Now, his sons, including Sabyasachi are donating in this trust to help the poor and destitute.

With the help of this trust, Gangadhar Ayurvedic Hospital, Chetana Library, Old Age Home have been set up to help the poor people.

He also published a magazine, ‘Chetana Barta’ for the preservation and development of language, art and culture of Sonepur.

He has also written many books. His famous ones include Sala Budha, Sala Budha Ra Natya Darshan, Sala Budha Ra Kathani, Sala Budha Ra Geeta Darshan and Sala Budha Ra Shri Mandira Darshan etc.

Sabyasachi has made films based on his books Sala Budha and Aadim Bichara. These films have won national awards.

The last rites of Kapileswar Prasad will be performed at his native place on Tuesday morning as his children are not living in Odisha.
