Three Detained For Unauthorised Toilet Construction On Puri Sea Beach

Puri: Police on Monday detained three persons for allegedly constructing unauthorized concrete toilets on the Puri sea beach, violating the Coastal Regulation Zone norms that prohibits construction of any permanent structure at least 500 metres from the coast.

According to sources, the district administration stopped construction of these toilets behind Raj Bhawan alongside a 2000 feet long make-shift structure to set up different stalls ahead of Rath Yatra.

“A social organisation Samaj Banchao had obtained permission for sanitation during the festival from July 15 to 21. But no permission was given for setting up illegal structures at this place,” said executive engineer, Puri Municipality, Srikant Tarai.

Those detained are being questioned and police are trying to ascertain the identity of persons behind construction of the toilets.

Puri sub-collector Bhabatarana Sahoo said, “The construction work has been taken up illegally. The district administration was completely unaware about the same. Officials from the administration will visit the spot and send a report for a thorough inquiry into the matter.”
