Train Services Suspended In Assam Due To Landslide

Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railway has suspended four trains, snapping rail connectivity to Tripura and parts of Assam’s valley. This is due to the landslides and tunnel washouts in Assam.

The affected trains are 55616 Guwahati- Silchar Fast passenger, 25657 Sealdah- Silchar Kanchanjungha Express, and 15658 Agartala- Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express. Silchar- Guwahati Fast passenger has been cancelled.

The landslides occurred between 1:30 am and 3:30 am in five places in the Lumdinh- Badarpur hill section. NF Railways chief PRO PJ Sharma said that heavy rain in the area has affected the normal train services.

The state inland water transport (IWT) department has also suspended all ferry services in Barak valley bordering Bangladesh where the flood situation has worsened with rise in water level of all the rivers.

“The situation is under close watch”, assured IWT director Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury adding that the water level is rising under Guwahati division. He further informed that more than 30,000 ferry passengers have been affected.

“There is no passenger train stranded in the affected section. Although the extent of damage is yet to be fully ascertained, restoration work has already started in all affected locations. Divisional Railway Manager Lumding is already at site monitoring the situation,” the NFR CPRO said. Efforts are on to resume train services soon, he added.
