Tribal Family Leave Village In Odisha’s Malkangiri Following Maoist Threat

Malkangiri: Fearing threat to their lives from Maoists, 13 members of a tribal family left their native village Dabuguda in Malkangiri district on Sunday.

After lodging a complaint at the Muduliguda police station, they met Malkangiri SP Rishikesh Dnyandeo Khilari on Monday and requested him to provide them with adequate protection.

They told the SP that the Maoists had severely thrashed them in the praja court following the recent death of a top Maoist cadre and commander, Rakesh, near Dabuguda in an encounter with the security personnel. “Apart from thrashing us, they also damaged our houses and properties and warned us not to harvest the crops we had raised on our field,” they added.

The families also said that more than 100 persons had earlier left the village owing to Maoist threat.
