Sambalpur: Two students drowned in Jhankarapalli power channel at Mundaghat in Sambalpur district on Friday morning.
The duo was identified as Sumit Das and Samir Dalei.
The incident took place at around 7:30 am.
According to sources, eight Class X students of Arabinda School had gone to take bath in the water body while on their way to attend tuition classes.
However, two of them slipped into the deep waters due to strong current.
The students used to attend tuition classes at night and return home in the morning. But, their family members were informed about the mishap this morning by some students of the school.
One of them was later rescued from by fire personnel in a critical condition and admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
