Water Level In Hirakud Reservoir Recedes

Sambalpur: The Hirakud Dam authorities at Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district Water level in Hirakud reservoir are concerned over the gradual decline in the water level in the reservoir.

Sources said the water level in the dam was 600.12 feet till 9 pm on Monday as against 600.67 feet by 6 pm on Saturday.

Going by the trend in the recession in the water level, the dam authorities have said the water level will come down to below 600 feet on Tuesday.

The average inflow of Mahanadi water into the reservoir in the last 24 hours (till 9 am on Monday) was 6171 cusecs per second while the outflow of water was 3657 cusecs through the Bargarh canal, 76 cusecs through Sambalpur canal, 630 cusecs through Sasan canal and 10,264 cusecs through the power channel.

“Since the discharge of Mahanadi water is more than the inflow of water, water level in the reservoir will come down further if there is no heavy rain in the upper catchments of the river,” the dam authorities informed.

The optimum water level of the Hirakud reservoir is 630 feet.
