Winged Guests Throng Bansadhara River Bank In Nabarangpur Village

Nabarangpur: People of Bhaleri village in Gunupur block in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district are in high spirits with thousands of migratory birds congregating along the river bank of Bansadhara.

With the arrival of these birds, the tourists have started visiting the village in large numbers.

“The arrival of these birds begins during the beginning of the monsoon. These birds during their stay in the area until the onset of winter lay eggs on the trees and rear the hatchlings till they are able to fly,” said A Nath of Bhaleri village.

“As the villagers keep a close watch on these birds to save them from the poachers, their number goes up substantially every year,” he said, adding that these birds have been visiting the village since last 10 years.

Raghunath Sabar, a bird lover of Bhaleri village, said the number of these migratory birds will increase if the state government declare this area as a bird sanctuary.

Talking to the media, Gunupur Range Officer Ashok Pradhan said about 15,000 cranes have thronged the Bhaleri area this year. “For the safety and protection of these birds, we are conducting a series of meeting with the villagers and encouraged them to take their proper care,” he added.
