Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday sanctioned Rs 4 lakh assistance from Odisha Working Journalist Welfare Fund to the family of journalist Arindam Das who died in a tragic boat mishap at Mundali in Cuttack.
Television journalist Arindam died after an ODRAF boat engaged in the rescue operation of a stranded tusker capsized in the Mahanadi near Mundali barrage on Friday.
Five ODRAF personnel and two journalists of a local news channel, Arindam and Pravat Sinha, were on the powerboat when it overturned in the river due to strong water current. It was deployed to help the jumbo move from the point where it was stuck.
He was rescued in a critical state and rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
