Contractor Shot Dead In Ganjam

Berhampur: Police are on the lookout for miscreants involved in the murder of a contractor at Gothagan village under Sheragada police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district late on Sunday.

Sources said four motorcycle-borne miscreants arrived at the house of Jogendra Swain, a local contractor at Gothagan village late in the night and called out for him. As soon as Swain came out of his house, they opened fire on him and fled the area.
Soon after the incident, the villagers rushed Swain to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Hinjili from where the doctors referred to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. The doctors there advised Swain’s kin to take to a hospital in Visakhapatnam. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
The body of the deceased was taken for post-mortem on Monday morning.
Talking to mediapersons, Bipin Swain, a relative of the deceased, said the former Sarpanch of Gothagan, Sibaram Sethi had enmity with Jogendra over the construction of a house.
“We have received the complaint from the relative of the deceased and registered a case. Efforts are on to nab the former sarpanch and his associates,” Sheragada IIC Biswaranjan Nayak told the media.
