Paradip: Hundreds of farmers under the aegis of Krushak Ekta Manch on Thursday staged a blockade near Rangiagada bridge on the main road, connecting Paradip refinery here.
“We have been demanding permanent appointment for landless farmers’ families in Paradip refinery since long. Despite assurances and discussions with the district administrations and authorities of the refinery, no step has so far been taken to consider the plights of the landless people of the locality. This step-motherly attitude of the officials concerned has forced us to hit the streets,” said a member of the farmers’ outfit.
In a meeting held at the additional collector’s office in the recent past, the officials assured to provide appointment to those who had lost their land due to the project in a phased manner. But, nothing has been done in this regard, the member added.
