Keonjhar: A herd of 19 wild elephants wreaked havoc in Bangiraposi and Balipasi villages under Champua range in Keonjhar district, destroying crops and several houses on Friday morning.
According to reports, the jumbos caused extensive damage in agricultural fields and destroyed more than five houses in Ukhandaa of the district.
“The elephant herd is believed to have strayed into human habitation in search of food. We are trying our best to drive them away,” a forest officer said.
On the other hand, the villagers urged the forest officers to take some remedial measures to mitigate the wild elephant menace.
