Bhubaneswar: The South-West monsoon could hit Odisha in the next two to three days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday morning.
The normal date for onset of monsoon is June 10 and the delay is being attributed to the development of Cyclone Vayu in the Arabian Sea last week.
The northern limit of the monsoon still continues to pass through Mangaluru and Cuddalore in South and Goalpara and Gangtok in North East.
“Conditions are becoming favourable for further advancement of the South West monsoon into some more parts of Central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, some parts of south Konkan & Goa, Andhra Pradesh, remaining parts of Tamilnadu, some more parts of Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of northeast India, some parts of West Bengal, Sikkim and Odisha in the next 2-3 days,” an IMD bulletin said.
A low-pressure area is also likely to develop over North Bay of Bengal in the next three to four days, the bulletin added.
Director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre H R Biswas, who had forecast the development of a low pressure on June 16, said it could help in the advancement of the monsoon.
According to Biswas, the monsoon was expected to arrive in Odisha on June 16, but was delayed because of Cyclone Vayu.
