Odia Migrant Labourers Rescued From Telangana

Rayagada: A team from International Human Rights Centre (IHRC), a voluntary organisatioon, rescued 15 Odia migrant labourers from a brick kiln in Telangana on Saturday.

According to reports, the 15 migrant labourers including seven women of Balangir district had recently gone to Paidapalli in Karlachilla district of Telangana to work in a brick kiln.

The owner of the brick kiln did not give them their daily wages for a week and instead paid Rs 200 to each worker for a week for sustenance. If they demanded more wages, the employer would physically abuse them, reports said.

Unable to bear with the torture, some migrant labourers informed the matter to IHRC. A team of IHRC volunteers arrived at Paidapalli on Saturday and rescued 15 migrant labourers who were sent in a train to Rayagada in the night.

The Labour Welfare staffs, who had made arrangement for night halt of the migrant labourers at the railway station, took them to the Balangir district on Sunday morning.
