Odisha Govt Increases Compensation For Sexual Assault Victims

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced an increase in the ex-gratia being provided to victims of sexual assault and other similar crimes.

According to a notification issued by the Home Department, the bereaved family will get Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh in the case of death while a rape survivor will be given Rs 4 lakh to Rs 7 lakh.

A gang-rape survivor will be provided Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh and in case of unnatural sexual assault, the survivor will get Rs 4 lakh to Rs 7 lakh, the notification said.
The compensation amount for burn victims has also been increased. The victims with disfigured face will get Rs 7 to 8 lakh assistance and those with more than 50 per cent burn injury, Rs 5 lakh to 8 lakh. Victims with less than 50 per cent injury will get an assistance of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
“If a woman victim of sexual assault/acid attack is covered under one or more category of the schedule, she will be entitled to be considered for combined value of the compensation,” the notification added.
