Poor Roads: Expectant Mother Carried On Cot In Odisha’s Keonjhar

Keonjhar: Motorable roads are still missing in the interior parts of Odisha and the worst sufferers are expectant mothers as ambulances often fail to reach their doorsteps in time.

A pregnant woman was carried on a cot for nearly 5 km in the absence of ambulance services due to poor roads at Chhadadihi village under Bansapala block in Keonjhar district on Tuesday.

Padmini, wife of Lulu Dehury of Chhadadihi village, complained of labour pain on Tuesday morning. When ambulance failed to reach the village, her family members with the help of villagers carried her on a cot for five km to reach Jaladihi Square.

The woman was then carried in 102 Janani Express to Bansapala community health centre. Doctors there referred her to Keonjhar district headquarters hospital. However, she delivered a baby boy on her way to the hospital.

According to sources, condition of both mother and child are stated to be stable now.
