Bhubaneswar: The SAI International School here will set up a plastic waste recycling centre in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Centre for Cooperation and Rural Excellence (CORE).
According to a statement issued by the school, the centre will create awareness among students to maintain a healthy environment and promote recycling of plastic waste. It said that the school will be the first in Odisha to launch such a centre.
The announcement was made on a day when Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP Nadia Rasheed visited the campus and asked the students to collaboratively work towards a greener planet.
UNDP’s Head, Circular, Economy Prabhjot Sodhi and Marketing Head of Big Bazaar Shubhro Saha also visited the campus and encouraged them to espouse the cause for recycling of plastic waste. Through informative videos, they encouraged students to contribute their lot in reducing their carbon footprint.
Founder of SAI International Education Group Bijaya Kumar Sahoo said that making the planet plastic-free requires a collaborative effort. He said that each student has the potential to create a change in the society and this platform will give them an opportunity to champion the cause of climate action.
